Award Nominations

🏆 The Montana School Counselor of the Year Award

This award honors the best of the best - counselors who are running a top-notch, comprehensive school counseling program for the grade levels they serve (K-12). 


To be eligible, nominees must:

  • Be a current MSCA member
  • Have at least three years of experience as a school counselor

Nominees are scored on the following criteria:

  • Evidence of use of the American School Counselor Association National Model to deliver a comprehensive program
  • Evidence of characteristics or qualities demonstrating leadership
  • Evidence of innovation and originality within school counseling program
  • Evidence contributing to student achievement and enhancement
  • Dedication to the profession and membership to MSCA

We ask that you only submit one nomination form per nominee and the contact will be the coordinator for the nomination. Once the nomination form is completed, submit up to three Letters of Recommendation (if more than three letters are provided, the first three will be considered). The nominee will be notified and asked to provide evidence of their comprehensive program. Please note, current MSCA Board Members are not eligible for this award.


Along with being nominated for the ASCA 2027 School Counselor of the Year award, the honoree will receive:

  • $500 monetary award
  • $500 toward travel expenses to attend the ASCA School Counselor of the Year Gala in Washington, D.C., in January 2028
  • An all-expenses-paid trip to ASCA Elevate, a leadership training taking place July 13–14, 2028 in Seattle, WA
  • Paid registration to the ASCA Conference, July 15–18, 2028, in Seattle, WA

All nomination materials are due on Monday, October 19, 2026.

🏆 The Montana Advocate of the Year Award 

This award recognizes an individual who contributes to the implementation and improvement of school counseling programs.


Nominees are scored on the following criteria:

  • Contributions to the implementation and improvement of school counseling programs
  • Their impact on school counselors and students at the local, state, and/or national level

Once the nomination form is completed, submit up to three Letters of Recommendation (if more than three letters are provided, the first three will be used). Please note, current MSCA Board Members are not eligible for this award.


All nomination materials are due by Friday, February 19, 2027.

The winners will be announced at the conclusion of the membership meeting on April 16, 2027 in Butte, Montana.
