Graduate Student Poster session
New in 2024!
Graduate students are busy with coursework and practicum/internship. However, it’s never too early to start employing data and conducting research to further the field of school counseling. MSCA seeks graduate students to present their scholarly work at the MSCA Conference! Any original work- class projects, curriculum, research and compilations are all examples of great poster presentation topics.
Cash prizes will be awarded! Proposals are due Friday, March 15, 2024.
What does the presentation look like?
Poster presentations are a less formal means of presenting to an audience. Posters will be grouped together in one location and attendees will have time to come by and ask students about their posters. Some attendees are very engaged and will ask you lots of questions, others look at the poster from a distance and say nothing. Be prepared to discuss your poster and research for about 5-10 minutes with individuals who come speak with you. Standard Poster Design
4’ x 3’ poster submitted in either .pdf or .ppt format. Free templates for developing a poster are available online at sites such as http://www.makesigns.com. Examples of completed posters can be found here. Your design may look different if you do not have original research or data, but that doesn’t mean your presentation isn’t worth doing!
Collaborating with Faculty
One way to get started with research is to partner with a faculty member or school counselor who is conducting research. One idea is to explore how Montana school counselors understand and implement the ASCA National Model. You can usually find research interests on the professor’s webpage, and many instructors welcome help from graduate students! Ways in which you may be involved, depending on the study, are data collection, reviewing the literature, data entry, surveying participants, and writing up the results or presenting at a conference. This looks great on your resume when you start to look for jobs, and even better if you are thinking about pursuing a doctoral degree in the future!
